the peak district national park

The Peak District National Park is a such a diverse and wonderful place to visit and the Horse and Jockey is ideally situated to visit the area.

There are some wonderful places to visit if you enjoy walking there are pubilc footpaths all over the Peak District from flat trails to hilly hikes.

Chatsworth House
There is Chatsworth House which is called 'The Jewel' in the Peak District's Crown and it works hard to make sure that visitors have an enjoyable time.
You can walk the acres of the Chatsworth Estate for free (Parking fees apply) or visit the magnificent gardens or visit the actual house itself.

Tideswell

Castleton
With undeground caves to explore and some lovely shops and coffee shops, Castelton is a worth a visit if you are in the area, also home to Blue John mineral.

Bakewell
Famous for its Bakewell Pudding (not Bakewell Tart!) One of the most popular villages and can get very busy, especially on Monday as this is market day.
With a lovely park and childrens play area and the River Wye running through it.

Buxton
The Spa town is becoming more popular for visitors for days out, with the Opera house, Pavilion Gardens, wonderful architecture throughout the town, its own brewery, in Summer it hosts a fringe festival with lots to do and see, it is well worth a visit.

Matlock/Matlock Bath
Two places close together but so very different, Matlock is a busy little town and has some lovely shops and you can get the steam train to the nearby Rowsley and Peak Village.
Matlock Bath is a strange but wonderful place to visit, with amusements, ice cream parlours and fish and chip shops it will remind you of being by the seaside. In winter they have a illuminations over the river
